Let’s face it. Much of what we purchase from the grocery store these days is full of words we do not understand. Especially spice mixes, lke Taco Seasoning. The brand that my family used to use was Ortega. According to their website the ingredients in their taco seasoning are as follows: Yellow Corn Flour, Salt, Maltodextrin, Paprika, Spices, Modified Corn Starch, Sugar, Garlic Powder, Citric Acid, Autolyzed Yeast Extract, Caramel Color (sulfites). Now some of these items should not be in your spice mix!

Rather than continue to buy the pre-made, store-bought version, I looked into making it from scratch. The awesome thing I found out was it is less expensive and much tastier! Please give the recipe a try time you make tacos. What is even better is that you can make it in a large batch or a small batch, just make sure to shake it each time you use it.  Here is the recipe.
