Quick DIY Jar Air Fresheners
One of my absolute favorite things is air freshener. I adore clean fresh scents that refresh you and your home. It is truly uplifting to breathe in a wonderful smell, especially in the winter, when you are shut in!
But what I hate is all the chemicals the typical air freshener has in it. So I searched for an easy homemade solution. I tried baking soda with essential oils and those work really well, but lose their scent a lot faster in my opinion. So I searched for a better idea and my neighbor who is a gardener got me on to the idea of using these special water crystals. They are actually meant to deliver water to plants, by absorbing a ton of water and holding it until the plant needs it. Then they breakdown into water and nitrogen. it is pretty awesome! You can find them at your local hardware or garden center. I got a 12 ounce bag and I have hardly used any, so it is worth the value.
What is more these jars can be refreshed! I made them for Christmas presents last year and the jars I gave to my friends are still going strong. You just need to add a small amount of hot water with a few drops of essential oil. What could be easier than that? Plus, they are super simple to make. I made 10 jars in under 10 minutes. How about that for a days work?
I absolutely love these easy to make air freshener jars. They are super simple to make. You will need minimal supplies. Plus they can be customized to your favorite scent!

Directions
STEP 1: In a two cup measuring cup, stir together:
- 2 teaspoons polymer absorbent crystals*,
- 1 1/2 cups of water and
- 30 drops of essential oils.
If you use more than one oil you may split the amount evenly or however you prefer. For my jar I used 15 drops of Rosemary and 15 drops of Peppermint.STEP 2: Stir together until blended, there should not be any crystals that are dry.
STEP 3: Split the mixture between two half-pint mason jars. I fill mine up to just below the 6 oz mark. Make sure there is room for expansion!
STEP 4: To use immediately, place a thin piece of tulle (bought mine from the dollar store) or sheer fabric over the jar and screw on the ring. You can also poke a few holes into the metal top if you prefer.
STEP 5: When giving for gifts, leave the jar lid in place, place the tulle over the lid and screw on the ring.
STEP 6: I add a tag with directions to refresh the jar.- here are the ones you can download for free above in the supply list.

This type of Gel Aire Freshener will last in a small space for about 60 days. It can last longer if you close it when you are not using it. I have one at my desk that I only open when I am working that has lasted almost 90-days and then I just added a bit of hot water to get it to last another 90-days. Not bad! It lifts my mood and makes me focus too 🙂
